Hack 2 minutes: Bezos Morning System
Puttering. Coffee. Gym. Work.
This is the right order:
- Wake up earlier, naturally
- Putter (slowly moving, check your cellphone, read the newspaper, let your mind wander – not the same as not productive as you think …)
- Chat with Laura with the first cup of coffee
- Gym
- Work
What makes this routine strong not only the order, but also Bezos’s mindset About following up, even when motivation is low.
About finding training motivation:
Lex: What is the source of your motivation at the time -when you don’t want to exercise?
Bezos: I exercise almost every day, and almost every day it’s not difficult for me. A few days it was very difficult, and I still did it. I don’t want to. It hurts, and I am like, “Why am I here?” I don’t want to do anything.
Why am I here in the gym?
Why don’t I do anything else?
It’s not always easy.
The source of my motivation is to know I will feel better later if I do it.
The real motivation is: I can say my days miss the gym.
I’m not too vigilant.
I don’t feel good.
And then there is a more difficult motivation for long. You want to be healthy as we get older.
You want Healthspan.
You want to move and be healthy when you are 80 years old.
Such motivation, so far in the future, can be difficult to access at this time.
So I think about how I feel in four hours if I do it now. That I will have more energy for the rest of the day. That’s what motivated me.

Lex: What is your exercise routine? How much are you curly?
Bezos: I did about half an hour of cardio and about 45 minutes of resistance training, most weight.

Why this was successful:
Jeff Bezos has a system that works for him. There are days he doesn’t want to do it but he uses a mixture “Short -term” motivation (How he felt in a few hours) and Motivation “long term” (to be healthy in 80) to push.
